It started with a chandelier.

When this client reached out to Housemade Design, she had already purchased a chandelier she’d fallen in love with. Now, she needed the rest of the room to match but wanted a space to meet a few practical requirements. First and foremost, it needed to work for her young family – storage for crafts and activities and pieces that weren’t too precious. As an avid host, she was also partial to oval dining tables for their flexible and inclusive seating.

We carefully selected each item and the finished room is a mix of high and low – good quality, high design furniture that didn’t break the bank combined with heirloom quality statement pieces. We were also careful to select performance textiles including the ultimate easy-to-maintain area rug.

Our favorite moment of this project came when the client told us she felt she could finally pull out her wedding gifts, treasured objets that had been stowed away for safekeeping, and put them on display. We couldn’t have dreamed of a more fulfilling outcome.

Because the beauty of design is in designing for real life.
